Nimmo's 9th-Inning Single Lifts Rangers Past Astros 6-5

Jake Nimmo delivered the decisive hit in the bottom of the ninth, driving in the go-ahead run as the Texas Rangers defeated the Houston Astros 6-5 at Globe Life Field.

Walk-Off Victory

Jake Nimmo’s single to center field in the ninth inning provided the final blow, allowing Andrew Heaney to score and securing a 6-5 victory for the Texas Rangers over the Houston Astros. The win improved the Rangers’ record to 49-47, while the Astros fell to 47-51.

Early Astros Lead

Houston established an early advantage in the second inning. Jose Altuve had been on base, but the scoring began when Adolis Garcia singled to right, allowing Corey Seager to score. Garcia then advanced to third on the play. In the same inning, Kyle Tucker doubled to right, driving in Seager from third and Garcia from second to make it 0-3.

The Rangers responded in the fourth inning when Marcus Semien homered to left center, cutting the deficit to 1-3. The game remained tense through the middle innings, with the Astros maintaining their lead.

Rangers Rally

Texas began to chip away at the lead in the fifth inning. Nathaniel Lowe tripled to right, scoring Seager to make the score 1-4. The Rangers tied the game in the seventh inning. Josh Smith hit a sacrifice fly to left, allowing Seager to score from second base. Shortly after, Evan Carter singled to center, driving in two runs to put the Rangers ahead 4-3.

The Astros quickly answered in the eighth inning. Yordan Alvarez homered to left, making the score 4-4. The Rangers regained the lead later in the eighth when Josh Smith homered to left, extending their advantage to 5-4. Houston tied it again in the bottom of the eighth when Jake Meyers homered to left, tying the game at 5-5.

Decisive Ninth

With the score tied and the game on the line, the Rangers’ offense struck in the ninth. Nimmo singled to center, allowing Heaney to score from second base and give Texas the 6-5 lead. The Rangers held on for the win.

Pitching Performance

Houston’s pitching staff struggled to maintain their early advantage. Cristian Javier started for the Astros, pitching 3.0 innings and allowing 3 earned runs on 4 hits with 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. He was relieved by Enyel De Los Santos, who pitched a perfect inning. Bryan Abreu and Steven Okert each pitched one scoreless inning. Bryan King pitched 2.0 innings, allowing 1 earned run. Josh Hader entered in the ninth but gave up the winning hit, taking the loss with a 3-1 record.

For the Rangers, MacKenzie Gore started, pitching 4.0 innings and allowing 1 earned run on 2 hits with 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. Tyler Alexander pitched 1.1 scoreless innings. Cole Winn and Robby Ahlstrom combined for 0.2 and 0.1 innings respectively, both allowing earned runs. Peyton Gray pitched 0.2 innings, allowing 1 earned run. Ben Peoples pitched 1.0 scoreless inning, and Jacob Latz closed the game with 1.0 scoreless inning, earning the win with a 2-1 record.

The game was played at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, with an attendance of 33,804.
