The Houston Cougars have improved their defensive lineup by signing Myles Rowser, a safety who previously played for the Arizona State Sun Devils. This move comes in light of new NCAA eligibility rules that allow players from the 2022 class, who did not redshirt or sign with a professional NFL team, to gain an extra year of eligibility.
Rowser, who did not redshirt during his first year, participated in nine games with the Campbell Camels. He also attended a rookie minicamp with the Seattle Seahawks but did not secure a professional contract. His college career includes time at Campbell in 2022, New Mexico State in 2023, and Arizona State from 2024 through 2025.
Over his career, Rowser has tallied 295 total tackles, which includes 8.5 tackles for loss, one sack, two interceptions, 16 passes defended, a forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries. During his final season at Arizona State, he played in all games, achieving a personal best of 84 tackles, four tackles for loss, three passes defended, and a fumble recovery.
His performance earned him a place on the All-Big 12 Third Team.
The Cougars already have a solid safety lineup with veterans Kentrell Webb and Jordan Allen, who recorded 71 and 48 tackles respectively last season. They have also recruited Tulane safety Javion White, who contributed 50 tackles last year. Rowser's addition may prompt the Cougars to reconsider their lineup, possibly shifting one of their safeties to the nickel corner position.
