Decisive Moment
Jake Nimmo provided the winning run with a single to center field in the bottom of the ninth inning, lifting the Texas Rangers to a 6-5 victory over the Houston Astros on Sunday. The hit scored Wyatt Langford, who had reached base earlier in the frame, while Nathaniel Lowe advanced to third base.
The game remained tied 5-5 entering the final period after Hoskins Higashioka homered to left field in the eighth. Josh Smith had also homered to left in the eighth, giving the Rangers a brief 5-4 lead before Higashioka’s shot tied the contest.
Scoring Progression
The Astros took an early 3-0 lead in the second inning. Jose Altuve singled to right, allowing Evan Carter to score, and advanced to third. Matt Carpenter then doubled to right, driving in both Altuve and Carter to extend the advantage.
The Rangers chipped away in the fourth inning when Altuve homered to left center, making the score 3-1. In the fifth, Nimmo tripled to right, scoring Corey Jung to make it 3-2. The Astros responded in the seventh inning. Adolis Garcia hit a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Wyatt Langford, before Yordan Alvarez singled to center, scoring both Garcia and Garcia to take a 4-2 lead.
Smith’s eighth-inning home run narrowed the gap to 4-3, and Higashioka’s follow-up shot tied the game at 4-4. However, the Rangers reclaimed the lead in the eighth when Smith’s homer made it 5-4, only for Higashioka to tie it again at 5-5.
