The University of Houston's football team has announced that Shadre Hurst, an offensive guard, has been honored with a spot on the Preseason AP All-American First-Team. This announcement was made on Tuesday, showcasing Hurst's significant contributions and performance on the field.
Earlier this month, Hurst also made it onto the Preseason Watch Lists for both the Lombardi Trophy and the Outland Trophy. He has a connection with head coach Willie Fritz and offensive line coach Eman Naghavi from their previous time at Tulane, where Hurst earned All-American recognition and received All-AAC accolades in The American Conference.
Hurst has displayed outstanding abilities, achieving an 80.0 pass block grade in 2023, placing him second among active FBS offensive linemen. Over more than 1,200 passing snaps, he has allowed just one sack, demonstrating his dependability. In 2025, he was acknowledged as the highest graded offensive lineman in the American Athletic Conference and was ranked sixth among guards nationally by Pro Football Focus.
The Cougars are preparing to kick off their college football season on September 5, hosting Oregon State at TDECU Stadium, with the game starting at 11 a.m.
