Caden Powell, a Waco native and former Baylor basketball player, is set to rejoin the team for the 2026-27 season following a recent court injunction in Ohio. Previously playing at Wyoming and Rice, Powell joined Baylor last season, where he transitioned from an expected backup center to a starting role due to team injuries.
This season, Baylor's roster is evolving under head coach Scott Drew, who aims to create a deeper lineup to withstand the challenges of a full season and compete through March. Powell's return adds significant depth to the team, enhancing their overall capabilities.
Though Powell may not immediately reclaim a starting position, he is anticipated to be a vital contributor off the bench. His defensive skills and ability to act as a lob threat will be essential for the Bears.
The projected depth chart includes guards Kayden Mingo and Dylan Mingo as starters, with a rotation featuring Isaac Williams IV and Brett Decker Jr. In the forward positions, Isaac Celiscar and Evan Chatman are expected to start, while Juslin Bodo Bodo will lead the center position, with Powell as a key rotation player.
Powell's experience will be crucial for the relatively young team, which previously had only two seniors before his return.
