The Dallas Cowboys have secured Von Miller on a one-year contract, as the team looks to strengthen its defense. This signing comes amid a significant overhaul, featuring around six new starters and a new defensive coordinator, Christian Parker. Miller, who recorded nine sacks in 2025 while playing for the Washington Commanders, aims to leverage his experience in his new role.
Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer expressed trust in Miller's capabilities, highlighting his sharp football intelligence and quickness. Schottenheimer mentioned that while Miller may not be on the field for every play, his involvement is expected to elevate the defensive unit's performance.
He remarked on Miller's deep understanding of the game, noting that his football intellect is exceptional and that he has a keen grasp of angles and various techniques.
In the previous season, Miller participated in 17 games with the Commanders, starting three and accumulating 420 snaps, which represented 37 percent of the team's defensive plays. In Dallas, he is anticipated to have a similar role, likely entering during crucial moments such as third downs while other players manage earlier downs.
Miller's impressive career includes being the second overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft from Texas A&M, earning the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award, and winning two Super Bowl titles, one with the Denver Broncos and another with the Los Angeles Rams. He currently leads all active players with 138.5 career sacks and is tied with Cowboys legend DeMarcus Ware for 13th all-time.
