Princeton Track Athletes Earn State Medals at TAAF Meet

Five Princeton High School track and field athletes competed at the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation Games of Texas held at Merrill Green Stadium in Bryan, with senior Sydney Smith capturing a state championship title. The event serves as one of the final competitions for high school runners before the start of the new academic year.

Smith secured first place in the 18U girls’ 100-meter dash with a time of 14.37 seconds. She passed Garland competitor Kelcy Horace, who finished with a time of 14.93 seconds, on the sixth hurdle and extended her lead approaching the final barrier. Smith also earned a third-place finish in the long jump event, clearing the bar at 19 feet, 1.25 inches.

Senior Aaliyah Crisp placed second in the 18U girls’ 300-meter hurdles with a time of 44.73 seconds, marking a new personal record for the athlete. Crisp also competed in the 18U girls’ 4x100 meter relay alongside Mimi Owens, Makenzie White, and Leah Boadi. The Princeton quartet finished sixth overall with a time of 47.99 seconds.

Smith recently concluded her first season at Princeton after transferring from Allen High School. She received a scholarship offer from the University of Kansas on July 18 and has expressed interest from Purdue, SMU, and Utah.

During her tenure at Princeton, Smith broke the school record in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.67 seconds and set a new program mark in the long jump.

Crisp previously broke the Princeton school record in the 100-meter hurdles earlier this year with a time of 14.69 seconds at the Texan Twilight Invite, where she also won gold. She had previously set a school record in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 45.58 seconds at that same event.

The Princeton relay team previously won first place at their home meet in March with a time of 47.42 seconds. Crisp also earned second place at the Maurice Hill Invitational during that period. Smith was ranked as high as fourth in the state for the girls’ 100-meter hurdles and twelfth nationally in the long jump prior to the state meet.
