Avelo Airlines has announced plans to launch commercial passenger service at McKinney National Airport, with operations set to begin on Wednesday, November 11. The Texas-based carrier will offer nonstop routes to Las Vegas, Nevada, as well as four destinations in Florida: Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Orlando, and Tampa.

The airline stated that the new hub will generate more than 100 jobs. To attract initial customers, one-way fares start at $99. Travelers who book their tickets through Avelo before August will receive their first checked bag at no cost.

Andrew Levy, founder and chief executive officer of Avelo Airlines, described the launch as a significant moment for the carrier. He highlighted the airline’s focus on low fares, the convenience of the McKinney facility, and its on-time performance record as key benefits for passengers.

McKinney Mayor Bill Cox welcomed the announcement, thanking the airline for investing in the regional market. He noted that the new service provides additional travel options for residents. Ken Carley, director of McKinney National Airport, added that the partnership allows local travelers to save time and money by flying from a nearby location.

Avelo Airlines entered the market in 2021, marking the first new commercial carrier in the United States in 15 years. The airline currently operates to 37 destinations across 15 states and two locations in Puerto Rico. McKinney National Airport has been in operation since 1979. McKinney is about 7 miles west of Princeton.

Details regarding specific flight schedules beyond the start date and the exact breakdown of the new positions were not provided in the source material.
