McKinney National Airport has initiated its first commercial airline service, marking a significant operational shift for the facility. Avelo Airlines is the carrier providing this new connectivity, offering nonstop flights to five specific locations. The initial schedule includes routes to Las Vegas, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Orlando, and Tampa.
This launch provides travelers with an alternative to driving to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport or Dallas Love Field. McKinney is located about 7 miles west of Princeton. The routes aim to connect residents in North Texas with popular leisure spots while also facilitating easier access for visitors traveling to Collin County.
The arrival of Avelo follows announcements made earlier this year regarding the airline's plans to establish its first North Texas operating base at the airport. This development represents the first time the airport has hosted commercial airline service. The launch coincides with progress on a $79 million passenger terminal project. This construction initiative is designed to support future expansion by providing modern amenities, expanded security screening, and additional parking spaces.
City officials have long viewed commercial passenger service as a catalyst for economic development. They believe the service can attract new businesses, support tourism, and provide greater convenience for one of the nation's fastest-growing counties. To engage the community during the buildup, the airport held a Display Day event earlier this year. This public event allowed residents to view aircraft up close and learn about the airport's future before the first passenger flights departed.
