Eovaldi Sets the Tone
Nathan Eovaldi anchored the Texas Rangers’ offense with a sharp pitching performance, securing his ninth win of the season in a 10-4 victory over the Detroit Tigers at Globe Life Field on Friday. Eovaldi pitched five innings, allowing three earned runs on six hits while striking out nine batters and issuing one walk.
His ability to neutralize the Tigers’ lineup early provided the foundation for a game that saw Texas pull away in the later innings.
Early Tigers Lead
Detroit took an early advantage in the second inning. Díaz launched a 414-foot home run to left center, giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead. The Tigers extended their advantage later in the same frame.
Jung walked, bringing Osuna home to make it 2-0. Duran followed with a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Lopez to push the margin to 3-0. Jung added another run in the fourth inning with a double to left field that scored Lopez, making it 4-0.
Duran then singled to center, driving in Jung to make the score 5-0.
Rangers Fight Back
The Rangers began chipping away at the deficit in the fifth inning. Keith hit a 405-foot home run to right center, cutting the lead to 5-1. Lee then homered to left center, a 383-foot shot that scored McKinstry and brought the Rangers within two runs at 5-3. Smith added a 406-foot home run to right field in the same inning, tying the game at 5-5.
Late Inning Surge
Texas took the lead in the seventh inning. Osuna singled to left field, scoring Carter to make it 6-5. Lopez followed with a single to right, scoring Díaz to extend the lead to 7-5. Smith reached on an infield single to shortstop, driving in Osuna to push the margin to 8-5.
The Rangers added more runs in the eighth inning. Malgeri singled to center, scoring McKinstry to make it 9-5. Carter then homered to center, a 422-foot shot, to seal the 10-5 lead. The final score stood at 10-4 after accounting for the Tigers' remaining runs.
Pitching and Records
Detroit’s pitching staff struggled to contain the Rangers’ offense. Framber Valdez took the loss, falling to 4-6 on the season. He pitched five innings, allowing five earned runs on nine hits with two walks and one strikeout.
Beau Brieske pitched 1.2 innings, allowing one earned run on one hit with one strikeout. Drew Sommers gave up three earned runs in no innings pitched. Kenley Jansen pitched 0.1 innings with one walk.
Kyle Finnegan pitched one inning, allowing one earned run on three hits with one strikeout.
The Rangers’ bullpen provided support. Tyler Alexander pitched 0.2 innings with one hit and one strikeout. Peyton Gray pitched 0.2 innings with one hit and one strikeout. Robby Ahlstrom pitched 0.2 innings with one strikeout. Cole Winn pitched one inning, allowing one earned run on two hits with one strikeout. The win improved the Rangers’ record to 45-43. The Tigers fell to 38-50. The game was played in front of 33,450 spectators at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
