Denison, Texas — A year after devastating floods impacted the Texas Hill Country, the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country has reported distributing approximately $82 million in recovery assistance to survivors in the area. The nonprofit, based in Kerrville, initiated its relief fund on July 4, 2025, coinciding with the flooding that claimed over 130 lives.

With donations exceeding $150 million, this effort ranks among the largest privately led disaster recovery initiatives in Texas history. Foundation CEO Austin Dickson, who experienced personal loss due to the flooding, reflected on the anniversary as a mix of sorrow and hope.

The foundation prioritized immediate needs by allocating $15 million to over 50 local nonprofits within 45 days of the disaster, focusing on emergency aid, housing repairs, and mental health services.

As the situation evolved, the organization shifted its focus to long-term recovery, dedicating about one-third of its grant funding to housing support. So far, around 130 families have returned to repaired homes, while 98 households are in the process of moving into permanent housing. Additionally, the foundation has provided access to licensed therapists to address the mental health impacts identified in a January assessment.

The organization has also earmarked $10 million for a readiness and resilience fund to enhance future disaster preparedness. Although Denison is located far from the flood zone, the disaster's effects were felt statewide, with donations pouring in from across Texas. Nearly half of the funds raised remain available as the recovery efforts continue.
