Quantrill Anchors the Staff

The Texas Rangers secured a 5-0 victory over the Washington Nationals at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, on Wednesday, August 19, 2026. The win improved the Rangers’ record to 62-64, while the Nationals fell to 60-67. Attendance at the venue was recorded at 22,126 fans.

Cal Quantrill was the standout performer for Arlington, earning the win with a solid seven-inning outing. He allowed four hits and struck out five batters while walking none. Quantrill did not allow earned runs, providing a sturdy foundation for the Rangers’ offense to build upon. His performance was supported by relief pitchers who kept the Nationals from scoring in the late innings.

Offense Builds the Lead

The Rangers took an early lead in the first inning. A ground ball by Burger resulted in a double play, but Langford was able to score from second base, giving Texas a 1-0 advantage. In the second inning, Austin Foscue extended the lead with a solo home run to left field, which traveled 400 feet. This was the only home run of the game.

The Rangers continued to pressure the Nationals in the third inning. A ground ball by Nimmo led to a fielder’s choice, allowing Langford to score and increasing the margin to 3-0. Shortly after, Foscue drew a walk, and Seager crossed the plate to make it 4-0.

The Rangers capped off their scoring burst in the third when Freeman reached on an infield single to third base, driving in Nimmo for the fifth run of the game.

Closing Out the Game

The Washington Nationals failed to score throughout the contest. Jackson Kent took the loss in 3.2 innings, allowing eight hits and three walks while striking out three batters. Trevor Williams and Yovanny Cruz provided relief for Washington, combining for 4.1 scoreless innings. The Rangers’ bullpen, including Robby Ahlstrom, Jakob Junis, and Tyler Alexander, retired the remainder of the Nationals’ batters to seal the shutout.
