Nico Collins was not present during the portion of Houston’s Wednesday practice open to reporters, his third consecutive missed session. The Texans wide receiver suffered a Grade 1 hamstring strain before the team’s Week 2 game against Cincinnati and did not play in that contest.
His availability against the Indianapolis Colts remains unsettled, with a possible return instead coming in Week 4 against the Dallas Cowboys.
Dalton Schultz, Trent Brown, Ed Ingram and Jadeveon Clowney also were not observed during the media-access period. Schultz is a tight end, Brown and Ingram are offensive linemen, and Clowney is an edge rusher. No additional information about those players’ statuses was provided.
Houston is 0-2 entering Week 3. The Texans’ receiving production dropped without Collins against Cincinnati, as no Houston wide receiver recorded more than three catches or 40 yards. Schultz had 12 receptions for 140 yards, while Xavier Hutchinson, Kayshon Boutte and Jaylin Noel totaled seven catches.
If Collins remains unavailable, those three wide receivers would be expected to take on larger roles, and offensive coordinator Nick Caley would prepare for another game without the team’s top wideout.
