As the regular season nears, the Houston Texans are facing difficulties in enhancing their wide receiver lineup. The team has made significant roster improvements during training camp, including the addition of former No. 1 overall pick Jadeveon Clowney and defensive lineman Mario Edwards. However, they have not pursued major changes to their receiving corps, relying instead on younger players already on the team.
The options for acquiring a notable wide receiver are dwindling, especially with top free agents like Deebo Samuel, Stefon Diggs, and Keenan Allen signing elsewhere. Although Tyreek Hill is still available, concerns regarding his recovery from a torn ACL injury make a potential signing unlikely.
Other receivers such as Curtis Samuel, Brandin Cooks, Tyler Lockett, and DeAndre Hopkins may not offer significant upgrades to the Texans' current roster.
The Texans may opt to stick with their existing wide receiver group, featuring Nico Collins as a likely WR1 and Jayden Higgins as a potential WR2. Additionally, Jaylin Noel and Xavier Hutchinson are anticipated to play key roles, alongside a healthy Tank Dell. Despite the lack of a standout signing, the Texans' front office seems assured in their current wide receiver options.
With over $20 million in cap space, they retain the ability to make adjustments if needed, though the chances of adding another impactful wide receiver before the season appears minimal.
