The Dallas Cowboys’ defensive depth took another hit when safety P.J. Locke left the home opener against the Washington Commanders with a foot injury. The injury came during Washington’s initial possession and in Locke’s second game with Dallas.
Malik Hooker had been ruled out before the game because of a forearm injury. Locke’s exit therefore added to the team’s safety concerns. A replay aired by FOX showed Locke moving toward the play and appearing to limp before contact with another player. Training staff assisted him from the field, and reports cited by Sports Illustrated said he later reached the locker room without assistance.
Dallas signed Locke to a one-year contract worth $4 million during the offseason. He had spent his first six NFL seasons with the Denver Broncos. In the Cowboys’ season-opening defeat of the New York Giants, Locke made two tackles. Sports Illustrated characterized its report as breaking news that could receive additional updates.
