The Dallas Cowboys have added running back Tyler Goodson to their backfield depth following an injury to Malik Davis. Goodson was placed on the practice squad after Israel Abanikanda was waived, while 2025 draft picks Phil Mafah and Jaydon Blue were released near the end of training camp.
Goodson spent training camp with the Atlanta Falcons and led the team in the preseason with 92 rushing yards. His totals included a 49-yard touchdown run. In three seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, he had 264 rushing yards and one touchdown on 54 carries, plus 19 receptions for 103 yards and another touchdown.
Falcons running back Bijan Robinson told Blogging The Boys’ RJ Ochoa that Goodson is an elite player who can cut across the field, contribute as a receiver and fill several offensive roles. Robinson said he wished Goodson had stayed in Atlanta.
Goodson’s speed and receiving skills give Dallas another backfield option, though Heavy.com reported that his opportunities to play appear limited and that the team is keeping him as roster insurance. The Cowboys are preparing for Week 2 against the Washington Commanders after losing to the New York Giants in the opener, when Dallas rushed for fewer than 100 yards and Javonte Williams had 41.
