Princeton's Parks and Recreation Advisory Board holds its final meeting of the year at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, in the council chambers at 2000 E. Princeton Drive, the same day polls are open for the general election.
The agenda lists updates on the city's parks bond, on the planned purchase of a pet scanner for the dog park at J.M. Caldwell Sr. Community Park and on property owned by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Board members asked at their October meeting for the scanner and the Corps property to come back for discussion.
Bond parks
The city's $109 million parks bond covers improvements at J.J. Book Memorial Park, J.M. Caldwell Sr. Community Park, Veterans Memorial Park and Municipal Park, a multigenerational fitness and recreation center and an expansion of the Lois Nelson Public Library, according to the city's project page.
At the Oct. 8 meeting, Parks Director Chase Bryant told the board the park projects were on track to wrap up in December with no delays expected, the minutes show. He said each park would get a grand opening once it is done and that signs were being made to explain how the new artificial turf fields may be used.
Bryant also said the city's goal is to move all of its athletic complexes to artificial turf, citing wear on natural grass fields.
Other business
Bryant is asking the board to approve buying fitness equipment for an employee fitness room in the new Parks and Recreation administration and maintenance building. His memo says the room was part of the design the City Council approved and the money comes from furniture and equipment funds already set aside, so no new spending is needed.
