The return of "King of the Hill" for its 15th season on Hulu has brought renewed attention to Richardson, Texas, which served as the model for the show's fictional town of Arlen. All 10 episodes were released on July 20, and Hulu has already confirmed the series will continue through season 17.
Co-creator Mike Judge, who lived in Richardson during the 1990s, has previously stated that Arlen was based on the city. While Arlen is a blend of various Dallas-area suburbs, the essence of Richardson is evident in the show's depiction of suburban life. Season 15 notably features the University of Texas at Dallas, located in Richardson, along with other recognizable North Texas landmarks.
In this season, characters Hank and Peggy Hill navigate retirement while Bobby, now an adult, operates a fusion restaurant in Dallas. The series also includes local references, such as the State Fair of Texas and Whataburger. The voice cast, including Judge and Kathy Najimy, has returned to bring these familiar characters back to life.
The show's schools reflect local culture, with names honoring Dallas Cowboys legends, further embedding Richardson's influence into the fabric of Arlen.
