Princeton's parks staff is looking for helpers with gloves on Saturday, Oct. 10, for the monthly Garden Glow Up at the community garden in J.M. Caldwell Sr. Community Park, 500 W. College Ave.

The session runs 9 to 11 a.m. and takes place on the second Saturday of each month. According to the city's event listing, volunteers will weed, mulch and prepare beds for the season, with hands-on lessons in native and drought-tolerant plants, composting and water conservation.

There is a tech piece too: organizers plan to show students and neighbors how to use iNaturalist, a free app for identifying and logging plants and wildlife.

The city asks people who want to volunteer or learn more to email the parks contact listed on the calendar entry.

Container gardening, Oct. 17

A week later, on Saturday, Oct. 17, the Collin County Master Gardeners will lead a container gardening workshop from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Princeton Public Works, 255 E. Monte Carlo Blvd.

The class covers building container gardens out of standard pots as well as less conventional vessels. The city's description sums up the rule simply: anything that can hold soil and has drainage holes can become a garden. The Master Gardeners will offer pointers on getting started and keeping the plants thriving.

Space is reserved through a SignUpGenius form linked from the city calendar.
