Extra Innings Decide Close Matchup

The Texas Rangers defeated the Los Angeles Angels 2-1 on Saturday, Aug. 22, at Globe Life Field in Arlington. The decisive runs came in the 10th inning, breaking a deadlock that persisted through nine full frames. A crowd of 29,309 witnessed the back-and-forth contest, which featured strong pitching performances from both starting arms before the bullpen took over.

Scoring Sequence in the 10th

The game remained scoreless until the extra frame, where the Angels struck first. In the top of the 10th, Guzman doubled to left field, allowing Siri to score and give Los Angeles a 1-0 lead. The Rangers responded immediately in the bottom half.

Langford doubled to right field, driving in Carter to tie the game at 1-1. The decisive moment arrived when Duran reached on an infield single to third base. Langford then scored on a throwing error by third baseman Guzman, putting the Rangers ahead 2-1.

Nimmo advanced to second base on the play. There were no home runs recorded in the game.

Pitching Performances

Reid Detmers led the way for the Angels, pitching six innings while allowing six hits and one walk while striking out five batters. He gave up no earned runs. Jose Fermin followed with one inning of work, allowing one hit and striking out one.

Tayler Saucedo pitched one inning, allowing one hit. Ryan Watson handled one inning, allowing one hit and one walk while recording three strikeouts. Ben Joyce took the loss, pitching two-thirds of an inning while allowing two hits and one walk.

For the Rangers, MacKenzie Gore started, throwing six innings while allowing two hits and one walk while striking out seven batters without surrendering an earned run. Cole Winn pitched one hitless inning with two strikeouts. Chase Silseth worked one inning, allowing one walk and striking out one.

Jacob Latz pitched one inning, allowing one walk and striking out two. Tyler Alexander secured the win, pitching one inning, allowing one hit, and striking out two batters. The Rangers improved to 64-65, while the Angels fell to 51-78.
