A Lopsided Start to the Season
The Texas Longhorns made no secret of their intentions on Saturday, dismantling the Texas State Bobcats with a commanding 59-7 victory in the season opener. Playing before a packed crowd of 102,738 at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium, Texas asserted control early and never looked back, improving to 1-0 while dropping Texas State to 0-1.
Manning’s Precision Offense
Arch Manning was the architect of the blowout, delivering a masterclass in efficiency. He completed 20 of 27 passes for 305 yards and four touchdowns, though he did throw one interception. His connection with the wideouts was particularly lethal in the first half.
Cam Coleman hauled in a six-yard touchdown pass early in the first period, followed by an eight-yard strike to Ryan Wingo. Wingo finished with seven receptions for 121 yards and that score.
The Longhorns’ offense continued to pile on points through the air and ground. Manning found Hollywood Smothers for a 13-yard touchdown, adding to Smothers’ 70 rushing yards on ten carries. Coleman also caught a 20-yard touchdown pass from Manning in the third quarter, highlighting his two-touchdown performance.
Ground Game and Defense Seal It
Texas State managed to put points on the board in the second quarter when Davian Jackson ran for a four-yard touchdown, capped by a kick from Dylan Cunanan. However, the Bobcats’ offense struggled to maintain momentum. Brad Jackson started at quarterback for Texas State, completing 15 of 23 passes for 150 yards and one interception.
