Quarterback DJ Lagway has made the decision to transfer to Baylor after experiencing a challenging season at the University of Florida. Lagway, who was once the No. 3 ranked player in his class, began his time at Florida with high hopes as the successor to Graham Mertz.
Following Mertz's injury during the sixth game, Lagway took over as the starter and helped the Gators achieve a 5-1 record in the last six games, featuring key wins against ranked opponents.
However, Lagway's second season did not meet expectations. He dealt with injuries and faced difficulties, including a surprising loss to South Florida, which marked Florida's first defeat to the Bulls. His season culminated in a challenging game against LSU where he threw five interceptions, contributing to the Gators' disappointing 4-8 record and the subsequent firing of head coach Billy Napier.
Lagway entered the Transfer Portal seeking a fresh start and will now play under head coach Dave Aranda at Baylor. Former Florida quarterback Tim Tebow remarked that Lagway needed a new environment to succeed, expressing confidence in his potential at Baylor.
Lagway's debut with the Bears will be against Auburn, a significant matchup for both him and Coach Aranda as they look to improve from last season's performance. This game is scheduled to take place at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
