Cole Hutson can pursue a return to the Texas Longhorns after Judge Maria Cantu Hexel of Austin’s 53rd District Court issued a temporary injunction. The decision was reported by sports.yahoo.com, citing Chip Brown of Horns247.
Hutson had been declared ineligible before Texas’ Week 2 matchup with Ohio State. On Sept. 7, coach Steve Sarkisian said an NCAA issue involving Hutson was separate from the court ruling and remained under consideration. The order came shortly before Texas’ SEC opener at Tennessee in Knoxville on Saturday, so Hutson’s availability for that game is still unknown.
Sarkisian was scheduled to speak with local media on Thursday and may provide an update.
Texas has continued to get consistent play from both guard spots. Oregon State transfer Dylan Sikorski is starting at left guard, even though fall-camp expectations favored Western Kentucky transfer Laurence Seymore for that position. During camp, quarterback Arch Manning said Hutson’s return to the team had caught him off guard and that he was pleased to have him back.
Offensive guard Brandon Baker said Hutson had contributed as a team leader and had performed well during camp.
