As the Texas Longhorns gear up for the 2026 football season, the left guard position is still under review by the coaching staff. Laurence Seymore, a transfer from Western Kentucky, is currently the frontrunner, having taken part in the first-team offensive line during the initial fall scrimmage.
In addition to Seymore, the team is assessing other candidates, including Dylan Sikorski, who previously started six games at left guard for Oregon State. Jaydon Chatman is also in the mix, along with Cole Hutson, who brings over 1,000 career offensive snaps at Texas to the competition.
The coaching staff is not feeling rushed to finalize their decision before the season opener, allowing them to continue their evaluations. Sarkisian pointed out that successful offensive line play depends on more than individual skills; communication and teamwork are essential, especially against tough opponents.
Sarkisian has stressed the need for consistency on the offensive line to safeguard quarterback Arch Manning. During the first scrimmage, he observed that the first-team offensive line displayed good teamwork while experimenting with different lineups. If Seymore secures the starting role, it could lead to stability.
However, the team has capable alternatives ready should adjustments be necessary based on performance, providing the Longhorns with strategic flexibility as they aim for success this season.
