The Houston Texans have confirmed roster changes following injuries sustained in their preseason opener against the Los Angeles Chargers. Quarterback Graham Mertz has been placed on the Reserve/Injured list after an MRI revealed a season-ending knee injury. Additionally, rookie running back Joshua Pitsenberger has been added to the injured reserve due to an ankle injury incurred late in the game.
Mertz's injury took place just prior to halftime, presenting a considerable challenge for the Texans, who were already managing multiple injuries before this game. Pitsenberger's injury occurred just before the conclusion of the contest, compounding the team's difficulties as they work through their preseason roster.
The Texans' injury report also includes several other players, including Ja'Marcus Ingram with a shoulder issue, Collin Wright dealing with a soft tissue strain, and Jake Hansen suffering from an ankle injury. Despite these challenges, the Texans have largely maintained their starting lineup, with the exception of linebacker E.J. Speed, who sustained an injury during offseason activities.
Head coach DeMeco Ryans and his coaching staff are likely to evaluate their options closely as they consider further roster changes throughout training camp. The team is focused on sustaining depth and performance as they progress through the preseason.
