The Houston Texans are bringing back Dare Ogunbowale before Week 4, giving the team four running backs as it prepares to host the Dallas Cowboys. Ogunbowale previously spent the 2022 through 2025 seasons with Houston and played in more than 60 games.
Ogunbowale’s primary role was on special teams, where he logged more than 1,000 snaps over his four previous seasons with the Texans. He also had 91 rushing attempts for 295 yards and three touchdowns. He was a Houston team captain last season, and head coach DeMeco Ryans has repeatedly praised him during his time with the team.
David Montgomery and Woody Marks are expected to handle most offensive snaps, while British Brooks could remain ahead of Ogunbowale in the weekly order. His signing’s reason was not clear in the report. Houston could be preparing for a potential injury, although player injury information for Week 4 was not expected until after Wednesday’s practice.
The Texans also could have wanted experienced depth for special teams. Sports Illustrated reported that Ogunbowale provides leadership and special-teams experience, even if his offensive role remains limited.
