TCU is now on the lookout for a new starting quarterback due to Josh Hoover's unexpected transfer to Indiana, the reigning national champions. This transfer follows a season where TCU ended with an 8-4 record, which had initially sparked hopes for a strong run towards the Big 12 championship and potential NFL draft selections.
Before Hoover's announcement, TCU's personnel team had already begun identifying quarterback prospects, not foreseeing his departure. General manager Ryan Dorchester remarked that Hoover was considered a key player for the upcoming season, and his exit was not anticipated. However, the team had started scouting quarterbacks as a precaution in case he decided to enter the NFL draft.
The Horned Frogs are particularly interested in acquiring an upperclassman with one year of eligibility left, as they are looking at high school signee Adam Schobel as a long-term solution for the position.
Following the confirmation of Hoover's transfer, TCU promptly signed Jaden Craig, who had previously played well at Harvard for two seasons and was initially discovered by Dorchester while analyzing film of a former Harvard receiver.
As the season concluded, TCU's list of quarterback prospects expanded, but Craig remained a primary target. Although Hoover performed well throughout the season, he did not garner significant interest from NFL scouts, leading the coaching staff to believe he would stay. However, head coach Sonny Dykes noticed a shift in Hoover's mindset as the season wrapped up, suggesting a transfer was becoming more likely.
