Tank Dell can earn up to $3.645 million under the revised agreement he reached with the Houston Texans last week, ahead of Houston’s Week 1 matchup with the Buffalo Bills. The contract details were reported Sept. 11 by sports.yahoo.com.
The change provides Dell with an additional $1.5 million beyond his existing $1.704 million deal. That earlier amount consists of a $1.145 million salary and a $500,000 signing bonus. The revised terms offer $300,000 when Dell reaches a 30% offensive snap share, followed by another $300,000 for every additional 5% through 50%. He can also earn $38,461 for each game in which he is active.
Dell is on injured reserve under a designation that permits a return, so he will miss at least Houston’s first four games while rehabbing a 2024 knee injury involving a dislocation and multiple ligament tears. His first possible game would be at home against the Dallas Cowboys, though no timetable is certain.
Dell must advance to 11-on-11 practice work, and Houston would have 21 days to activate him after opening his practice window. Otherwise, he would remain on injured reserve for the rest of the 2026 season.
Texans general manager Nick Caserio said Sept. 1 that Dell was approaching a return but still needed to complete more work and rebuild confidence in his ability to perform at his earlier level. Dell attended the Texans’ 2026 season premiere event, where Brian “Big Sarge” Barfield said he was in good spirits and eager to play.
