A Dallas court has issued a temporary restraining order that permits 18 college football players, including Ahmaad Moses from SMU, to compete for a fifth year of eligibility in the 2026 season. This decision comes shortly before the college football season begins and follows the Wisne v. NCAA ruling from July 31, which allowed athletes who graduated high school in 2022 to extend their eligibility.
The NCAA's appeal of that ruling has been overridden by this new injunction.
Moses, who was named a First Team All-ACC selection in 2025, has played 54 games and started 19 during his time with the Mustangs. He played a key role in SMU’s achievements, including a conference title in 2023 and a College Football Playoff appearance in 2024. Last season, he led the team with 104 tackles, five interceptions, and contributed significantly to the defense.
His performance against Miami (FL), where he recorded a career-high 15 tackles and two interceptions, was particularly noteworthy. After declaring for the NFL Draft post-2025 season, Moses faced challenges due to a herniated disk that required spinal fusion surgery. This injury has allowed him to qualify for a return under the ACC's new eligibility rules.
Moses has been active in fall camp with SMU since the Wisne ruling. Unless the NCAA appeals, he is anticipated to play in the Mustangs’ season opener against Florida State on September 7, joining a safety group that includes fellow players and former All-ACC selections.
