TCU has announced the dismissal of safety Jacob Fields from its football roster, occurring less than two weeks ahead of the season opener against North Carolina. This decision comes after a reported physical altercation with a teammate in the locker room on August 13, as documented in the TCU crime and fire log.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram described the incident as an aggravated assault. Sources indicated that Fields had been engaged in a confrontation with an offensive player and had previously experienced hostility from teammates, including insults and threats, with some instances involving being spat on. Despite reaching out to the coaching staff multiple times about the rising tensions, Fields did not receive any response.
Fields, who transferred to TCU from Louisiana Tech this offseason, was anticipated to start as the free safety for the Horned Frogs. In 2025, he was honored as Co-Defensive Player of the Year in Conference USA, having started all 12 games for Louisiana Tech. He achieved a team-high of 92 tackles, along with three interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns.
Additionally, he made 2.5 tackles for loss and had five pass breakups last season. Further information regarding the incident and its consequences has not yet been disclosed.
