The Houston Texans have bolstered their roster by acquiring wide receiver Kayshon Boutte from the New England Patriots. In return, the Texans have given up safety Jaylen Reed along with a seventh-round pick for the 2028 NFL Draft.
Boutte, a sixth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, joins the Texans as they aim to compete for the AFC South title against the Jacksonville Jaguars. This trade comes in the wake of Texans wide receiver Jayden Higgins suffering a torn ACL during a joint practice with the Raiders on August 19, which will keep him out for the entire season.
Higgins had a strong rookie season, recording 41 receptions for 525 yards and six touchdowns. His injury has prompted the Texans to look for more support behind Pro Bowler Nico Collins. Over the past two seasons with the Patriots, Boutte played in 29 games, gaining over 500 receiving yards each year.
He was instrumental in the team’s success, catching three touchdown passes in 2024 and six in 2025, contributing to their AFC title and Super Bowl 60 appearance. However, his role diminished this offseason with the Patriots acquiring AJ Brown and signing Romeo Doubs.
