Florida State coach Mike Norvell said the Seminoles are preparing for Saturday’s road game at No. 10 Alabama after athletic director Michael Alford was fired. Bruce Warwick is serving as interim athletic director. Norvell praised Alford and his wife, Laura, and described Warwick as an experienced professional. He plans to address the leadership change with players Tuesday after their Monday day off.
The Seminoles will be without freshman linebackers Izayia Williams and Daylen Green for the rest of the season. Veteran linebacker Blake Nichelson is expected to return this year but will miss an extended period. Norvell said the absences may create opportunities on defense and special teams.
Florida State is 1-1 after its loss to SMU. Norvell called that result disappointing but said it did not reduce his confidence in the team. He praised quarterback Ashton Daniels’ work during the week, including his practice approach and focus on controllable areas.
Norvell said Alabama has a fast, explosive defense with a larger front than last season. He said Florida State must win individual matchups, maintain offensive balance and make big plays while accounting for Alabama quarterback Keelon Russell’s ability to run outside the pocket.
