The Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints have been each fined $500,000 by the NFL following a brawl during a recent joint practice. This decision underscores the league's commitment to sportsmanship, especially during practices where unsportsmanlike conduct can result in injuries.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones expressed his concern over the fines and plans to appeal the ruling. He remarked that the behavior displayed during the practice, which included players removing their helmets and engaging in fights, does not represent the teams or the league positively. "That's pretty harsh, I mean, pretty stiff," Jones stated, acknowledging the league's position on the matter.
Should the fines be maintained, Jones indicated he would also penalize the players involved in the altercation. Linebacker Donovan Ezeiruaku was noted for removing the helmet of Saints offensive tackle Taliese Fuaga and striking offensive lineman Erik McCoy.
Additionally, Saints rookie wide receiver Brock Rechsteiner was implicated in several conflicts, including a physical clash with Cowboys cornerback Caelan Carson and performing a German suplex on Cowboys safety Jalen Thompson. Further information regarding the appeal and potential player fines has yet to be disclosed.
