Baylor could rely on junior Nate Bennett again in its Week 3 matchup with Louisiana Tech, with junior quarterback DJ Lagway listed as doubtful. Lagway missed the Bears’ victory over Prairie View A&M after an ankle injury suffered in the season-opening defeat against Auburn. He played in that Auburn game after transferring from Florida.
Bennett started against Prairie View A&M and produced 314 passing yards, completing 26 throws on 34 attempts. He had three touchdown passes and added a rushing touchdown on 13 yards, but also threw two interceptions. Edward Griffin is listed as the second quarterback on Baylor’s depth chart, followed by Quinn Murphy.
Coach Dave Aranda said earlier in the week that Lagway took part in a Monday walkthrough and would be evaluated through his practice work. A report said the injury is not expected to sideline him for a month or more, though his availability in an emergency against Louisiana Tech has not been determined.
On3’s Pete Nakos reported that Baylor hopes Lagway can return for the Big 12 opener against Colorado next Saturday.
