The Cowboys have promoted slot defender Reddy Steward from the practice squad as injuries continue to affect the secondary before Week 3 against the Baltimore Ravens. Starting free safety Malik Hooker remains sidelined by a forearm injury from Week 1, while starting cornerback Cobie Durant is out with a hamstring issue suffered in Week 2.
Hooker’s replacement, PJ Locke, is also unavailable because of a foot injury. During the second quarter against Baltimore, starting safety Jalen Thompson injured his left leg when it was caught awkwardly during a tackle attempt. Thompson could not put weight on the leg and went to the blue medical tent. He is listed as questionable to return with a hamstring injury.
Alijah Clark took over at safety alongside Markquese Bell after Thompson left. Bell was penalized for defensive pass interference on a play that contributed to a first-half touchdown by Derrick Henry. Rookie first-round pick Caleb Downs, who has safety experience from college, has also been on the practice squad. Further details about Thompson’s condition and the effect on Dallas’ defensive strategy were not yet clear.
