The Houston Texans have received encouraging updates regarding wide receiver Tank Dell's recovery from a significant knee injury. However, general manager Nick Caserio has made it clear that the team is not hurrying his return.
Dell, currently on Reserve/Injured with a designation to return, will be sidelined for a minimum of the first four games of the regular season due to a dislocated kneecap and multiple ligament tears he suffered in December 2024.
Caserio remarked that while Dell is closer to being game-ready than at the beginning of training camp, he still needs to regain his top-end speed, which is vital for his style of play. Improvements have been noted in Dell's quickness and route-running, but the Texans are committed to ensuring he can perform at the necessary speeds for NFL success.
Before his injury, Dell had established himself as an essential player for quarterback C.J. Stroud, achieving 98 receptions, 1,376 yards, and 10 touchdowns across his first two seasons. His ability to stretch the field is something the Texans hope to restore as they navigate the early season without him.
In his absence, other receivers like Boutte and Noel will have the chance to step up and develop chemistry with Stroud, allowing the team to evaluate their offensive needs. Caserio emphasized that the priority remains on Dell's complete recovery rather than a specific return date.
