The Houston Texans have strengthened their roster by acquiring wide receiver Kayshon Boutte from the New England Patriots through a trade finalized earlier this week. In exchange for Boutte, the Texans provided a seventh-round draft pick along with safety Jayden Reed to New England. This move comes after the team experienced a setback with second-year receiver Jayden Higgins, who suffered a torn ACL during practice.
Following a joint practice with the Carolina Panthers, Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans commented on the significance of Boutte's addition to the team. Ryans emphasized that Boutte could play a crucial role in the offense, particularly with Higgins sidelined. "Adding Kayshon is a big get for us," Ryans stated, highlighting Boutte's capability to make impactful plays, especially given his previous matchups against the Texans.
Boutte, drafted in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, has shown solid performance during his tenure with the Patriots. In the 2025 season, he achieved 33 receptions for 551 yards and six touchdowns, contributing to the team's Super Bowl run.
This achievement represented his second straight season of surpassing 30 receptions and 500 yards, while also doubling his touchdown total from the previous year.
The Texans aim to fill the gap left by Higgins with Boutte, who is anticipated to work alongside Nico Collins as a key outside receiver. Ryans expressed optimism regarding Boutte's potential growth, noting that he remains a young player eager to develop further. The Texans are hopeful that Boutte's established performance and motivation during his contract year will enhance their passing game this season.
