The Dallas Cowboys are evaluating new options for their defense after injuries sidelined Jonathan Bullard and Jalen Thompson during the first three regular-season games. Bullard is expected to miss three to five weeks because of a calf problem, while Thompson is projected to be out for four weeks or longer with a hamstring injury.

Bullard had been absent for much of training camp due to a previous injury. Thompson could be placed on injured reserve under a return designation, joining safety P.J. Locke. The Cowboys have also worked out several players, including former Dallas safety Juanyeh Thomas, as first-year defensive coordinator Christian Parker manages a depleted safety group.

Cornerback Shavon Revel also sustained knee and ankle injuries in the loss to the Baltimore Ravens in Rio. Schottenheimer said Revel was making progress, and the cornerback might practice this week. His status for the Week 4 game against Houston has not been confirmed.

Cobie Durant is not expected to travel to South Texas while recovering from a hamstring injury. Malik Hooker, who broke his forearm in the opener, may need more time, while DeMarvion Overshown could return to practice after missing two games with a hamstring injury. The Texans have not won a game.
