Nate Bennett is scheduled to make the first start of his college career when Baylor hosts Prairie View A&M in Week 2. DJ Lagway will miss the game because of a high-ankle sprain sustained against Auburn, Pete Thamel reported.

Lagway completed 27 of 54 passes for 333 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in Baylor’s 17-16 defeat. He stayed on the field after the injury. Coach Dave Aranda had called him day to day earlier in the week, while On3 reported that Lagway had been trying to play but was considered doubtful.

Baylor reached the end zone in the closing seconds against Auburn, then failed on a two-point try that would have produced a victory. The result left the Bears 0-1, and it was not clear whether Lagway’s condition influenced the decision to attempt the conversion. Baylor is scheduled to host Louisiana Tech next weekend and open Big 12 play against Colorado on Sept. 26.

No additional recovery timetable for Lagway was provided.
