Baylor defensive tackle Devonte Tezino is out for the rest of the season after injuring his leg during the Bears’ win over Prairie View A&M. The absence removes one of the team’s top interior defenders, according to coach Dave Aranda, who identified Tezino among Baylor’s leading performers at the position after the season opener.
Tezino had two sacks against Auburn, making an early mark on the season. Aranda said Baylor would feel the loss of the preparation and development that helped Tezino reach that level. The team also entered the season without senior safety and defensive leader Jacob Redding, who suffered a torn ACL before the opener against Auburn.
Other defensive linemen are expected to receive expanded duties. Aranda pointed to Braylen Jackson, who has helped against the run and could see additional opportunities. The coach called Jackson a physical player and said his run-stopping ability gives Baylor confidence.
The Bears began the season with the defensive line considered a major strength, but Tezino’s injury will challenge the unit’s depth for the remainder of the schedule.
