Prosecutors plan to review body-camera recordings and a 911 call in two criminal cases involving University of Houston football player Carmello Brooks, his attorney said. Brooks appeared in court Monday on a charge alleging an assault involving a pregnant person and a separate criminal mischief case.
Nariah Harley, who is connected to the assault case, asked the judge to have prosecutors dismiss the charge. She said an argument occurred inside Brooks’ apartment last week, where he repeatedly told her to leave and later carried her outside after she refused. Harley said Brooks called police because she would not leave.
She also told the court Brooks is the father of her baby and that she does not consider herself a victim. She said she wants all charges dismissed so they can move forward.
The other case stems from an August dispute in northwest Harris County involving another woman and her sister. Brooks is accused of damaging a door handle. Family members said Brooks and the two women attended high school together after growing up in Killeen.
Harley is also from Killeen and attends Texas Southern University. Attorney Brent Wasserstein said Brooks continues to be suspended from the football team while the cases are pending and hopes he will be allowed to attend classes. No further details were provided.
