The City of Melissa has issued an update regarding a cybersecurity breach affecting a vendor that previously provided emergency alert services to the community. Officials confirmed that the incident occurred within the vendor's retired OnSolve CodeRED platform and did not compromise any City of Melissa systems.
According to the vendor, an organized cybercriminal group removed data from the legacy environment. While there is no current evidence that the information has been published online, the data may have been leaked. The affected dataset potentially includes contact details from users of the retired system, such as names, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, and passwords associated with user profiles.
Melissa is about 9 miles northwest of Princeton. The City of Melissa is urging residents who reused passwords for other accounts to change those credentials as a precautionary measure. The legacy CodeRED system has been decommissioned due to permanent damage from the attack. The most recent backup of customer enrollment data available is from March 31, 2025. Consequently, some residents who enrolled or updated their information after that date may not be included in the system until the vendor completes restoration work.
The vendor has accelerated access to a new CodeRED by Crisis24 platform, which operates in a separate and non-compromised environment. The vendor reports that this new platform has undergone a full security audit supported by external experts. The City continues to send emergency notifications through the new CodeRED by Crisis24 platform and through TextMyGov.
Residents are strongly encouraged to confirm or update their emergency notification information to ensure they continue receiving alerts. Those who need to register or update their details can text MELISSATX to 24639 to receive a registration link. They may also visit the CodeRED Registration Portal at cityofmelissa.com or scan a CodeRED QR code found on City materials, newsletters, or social media posts.
