CJ Abrams and Luis García Jr. provided the offensive spark for the Washington Nationals, with both players hitting their 20th home runs of the season. Their power display helped Washington secure an 8-2 victory over the Houston Astros on Wednesday at Nationals Park. The win improved the Nationals' record to 48-46, while the Astros fell to 46-49.

Game Progression

Washington took control early in the third inning. Abrams reached base and scored on a sacrifice fly to left field, giving the home team a 1-0 lead. Shortly after, Lile doubled to left field, allowing García Jr. to cross the plate for a 2-0 advantage.

The momentum shifted decisively in the fourth inning when García Jr. homered to right center, measuring 417 feet. The blast drove in Ruiz and Wood, extending the Nationals' lead to 5-0. Houston managed to get on the board in the fifth inning when Diaz scored on a single by Matthews, making it 5-1. However, the Nationals immediately responded. Abrams followed with a 415-foot home run to right center, pushing the score to 6-1. Lile later scored on a groundout by Tena, and Crews crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by Ruiz, bringing the tally to 8-1.

Houston added a run in the eighth inning when Dezenzo scored on a throwing error by shortstop Abrams, who also reached on an infield single. The final score stood at 8-2.

Pitching Decisions

Foster Griffin earned the win for Washington, pitching seven scoreless innings with nine strikeouts and allowing only one run. Orlando Ribalta and Justin Lawrence each pitched one scoreless inning to close out the game. Spencer Arrighetti took the loss for Houston, giving up eight runs on seven hits over four innings. Alimber Santa, Nate Pearson, and Cristian Javier relieved Arrighetti, combining to allow no further runs.
