Trammell’s 3-run homer lifts Astros past Blue Jays, 7-2

Trammell swings it Houston’s way

Trammell hit a three-run homer to right field in the fifth inning, and the Houston Astros beat the Toronto Blue Jays 7-2 on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Daikin Park in Houston, Texas.

The home run, measured at 388 feet, was the only homer of the game. It scored Walker and Altuve and turned a one-run Houston lead into a 6-2 advantage. Altuve also produced two run-scoring singles for the Astros, who finished with seven runs.

Astros build the first lead

Houston opened the scoring in the fourth inning. Diaz singled to left, bringing in Altuve and moving Trammell to second for a 1-0 lead.

The Astros added another run in the same inning when Smith singled to left. Trammell scored on the play after a throwing error by left fielder Sánchez, with Smith safe at second and Diaz safe at third on the error.

Toronto answered in the fifth. Straw tripled to center, scoring Giménez to cut Houston’s lead to 2-1. Straw then scored on a wild pitch by Wesneski, tying the game at 2.

Houston moved back in front in the bottom of the fifth. Altuve reached on an infield single to shortstop, scoring Alvarez and moving Walker to second. Trammell followed with the three-run homer that made it 6-2.

Houston adds on late

The Astros added their final run in the seventh when Altuve singled to center, scoring Walker for a 7-2 lead.

Hayden Wesneski earned the win for Houston, allowing four hits and two earned runs with two walks and four strikeouts over 6.0 innings. Bennett Sousa pitched 1.0 inning, allowing no hits or earned runs with no walks and one strikeout. Enyel De Los Santos pitched 2.0 innings, allowing one hit and no earned runs with no walks and one strikeout.

Chad Dallas took the loss for Toronto, allowing seven hits and six earned runs with four walks and three strikeouts in 3.0 innings. Trey Yesavage pitched 2.0 innings with no hits, no earned runs, one walk and no strikeouts.

Houston improved to 59-56, while Toronto fell to 53-61. The attendance was 30,450.
