Dominant Sixth Inning Secures Win
The Houston Astros overcame an early deficit to defeat the Chicago White Sox 9-5 on Friday at Rate Field. The game’s turning point arrived in the sixth inning, where Houston erupted for eight runs, completely shifting the momentum after trailing 5-0.
The White Sox (54-48) built a commanding lead early in the contest. In the first inning, C. Montgomery hit a sacrifice fly to center field, allowing Antonacci to score. B. Montgomery followed with a single to right field, bringing Murakami home and moving Vargas to third.
Meidroth then reached on a hit-by-pitch, scoring Vargas. The White Sox added another run in the fifth inning when Benintendi scored on a wild pitch by Houston’s Kai-Wei Teng. A second wild pitch by Teng allowed Benintendi to score again, and Meidroth’s double to center field plated B. Montgomery, extending the Chicago lead to 5-0.
Astros Strike Back in Force
Houston began its comeback in the bottom of the sixth. Wade Jr. singled to right, scoring Alvarez. The inning exploded when Walker doubled to left, driving in Paredes, Wade Jr., and Altuve to tie the game at 5-5.
Smith then homered to left field, a 383-foot shot that scored Walker and gave Houston a 7-5 advantage. Altuve reached on an infield single to shortstop, scoring Peña, and Wade Jr. walked to bring Alvarez home, pushing the lead to 9-5.
The White Sox could not respond. In the ninth inning, Vázquez hit a ground rule double, scoring Trammell, but the final out was recorded to seal the 9-5 victory for Houston (51-54).
