The board of directors for Jack in the Box Inc. has selected Taylor Montgomery to serve as president, a position that becomes effective on September 14, 2026. In this newly established role, Montgomery will oversee brand strategy with specific goals to increase sustainable sales, enhance franchisee profitability, and prepare the company for future stability. He is joining the San Diego-based firm from Taco Bell.
This appointment represents the next phase of a succession plan the company had previously disclosed. Montgomery is anticipated to take over as chief executive officer within the following 12 months, at which point he will also become a member of the board of directors. During this interim period, he will collaborate with Mark King, who currently serves as executive chairman and interim CEO.
King will retain his position as chairman after the transition is complete.
Mark King expressed his enthusiasm for the hire, noting that he has observed Montgomery's execution capabilities directly. "I am thrilled to welcome Taylor to Jack in the Box. He is a proven leader with a track record of driving sustainable brand growth and results, and I have seen his ability to execute firsthand," King said.
He added that Montgomery possesses a strong grasp of the franchised quick-service restaurant sector and expressed confidence that the new president will further the company's strategic vision.
Prior to this move, Montgomery held the title of global chief brand officer at Taco Bell, a brand under Yum! Brands. In that capacity, he managed the brand's growth initiatives, which included overseeing systemwide sales exceeding $18 billion across a network of more than 9,000 locations. His tenure at Yum! Brands spanned more than ten years.
