The Jack in the Box restaurant at 1505 S.E. Everett Mall Way will permanently shut down on October 10. A Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification filing confirms that the site closure will result in the termination of all 24 employees currently assigned to the location.
Written notices were delivered to the affected staff on August 11. The group includes 20 team members, three team leaders, and one restaurant manager. The closure is part of a larger corporate strategy to reduce the number of operating locations.
In late 2025, the company disclosed plans to close between 150 and 200 underperforming stores by the end of 2026. This initiative includes the shutdown of roughly 80 to 120 locations by the end of 2025. The company stated that these measures are intended to lower costs and improve revenue.
Officials noted that declining customer traffic and rising beef prices had increased the company's debt relative to its annual earnings.
CEO Lance Tucker explained the rationale for the changes in April. He stated that the company aims to maximize shareholder returns through a simplified, asset-light business model.
Tucker said the actions focus on three areas: addressing the balance sheet to accelerate cash flow and pay down debt while maintaining investments in technology and restaurant reimagining; closing underperforming restaurants to ensure consistent net unit growth; and returning to simplicity in the business model.
